NGU Concert Choir and Orchestra to Perform Spring Concert

Tigerville, SC (April 17, 2019) The North Greenville University Cline School of Music’s choir and orchestra will present a moving performance of works designed for reflection, dedication, and contemplation on Tuesday, April 23 at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Greenville.
The concert begins with Edward Elgar’s “Elegy” for string orchestra followed by Gabriel Faure’s “Requiem,” and will conclude with “Words of Passion and Resurrection” by Dwight Gustafson.
Elgar’s “Elegy” was first performed in 1909 and was likely written in memory of his friend, August Jaeger. Faure’s “Requiem” was written when the composer was in his forties, likely as a response to his father’s death. Faure’s mother passed away shortly after the first performance of the “Requiem” adding another layer of meaning to the work. “Words of Passion and Resurrection” was first performed for the commencement concert at Bob Jones University in 2002 calling for a narrator with biblical texts describing Jesus’s sacrificial death and resurrection, and his promises to those who love Him.
“It is our hope that you will not only enjoy the performance of these pensive works but that you will consider their meaning and overarching message of everlasting life to those who trust in Jesus Christ,” said NGU Concert Choir Director Dr. Seth Killen.
The free concert, which is open to the public, begins at 7 p.m. No tickets are required.
