Faculty and Staff Honored at Retirement Recognition

Tigerville, SC (April 26, 2021) On Wednesday, April 21, North Greenville University (NGU) held a retirement recognition at a faculty/staff chapel, honoring longstanding faculty and staff for their contributions to the university and the North Greenville community. Because of the impact of COVID19 last spring, the ceremony honored retirees from both the 19-20 and 20-21 academic years.
“What a wonderful time it is to get to an end of a semester and be able to gather in a room to celebrate the end of the school year,” said NGU President Dr. Gene C. Fant, Jr.
President Fant spoke about the challenging year and read Psalm 56.
“Anytime you feel afraid, pray, read scripture, talk to those that encourage you. God is in control of all things,” he said. “As a community, he loves us and cares for us. He wants to see his name glorified and lifted up.”
Fant said that every time he is out in the community, someone notices his NGU lapel pin or shirt. He is often stopped and told stories about a faculty member, staff member, or coach that changed their life.
The university recognized nearly thirty faculty and staff who had retired over the course of the last two years. Everyone received a commemorative gift acknowledging their tenure.
This year’s Lamar S. Chapman Award was presented to faculty member Kathryn McColskey and staff member Paul Garrett. The award, presented annually, was established through the benefaction of Tom Hartness and Cema C. Chapman to honor a faculty and staff member who has excelled in his/her commitment and dedication to the purpose and mission of NGU.
