Cobe Celebrates Spring Deans List Appointees

Tigerville, SC (November 4, 2019) The College of Business & Entrepreneurship (COBE) celebrated their Spring 2019 semester dean’s list undergraduate students with faculty in October.
“An event like this allows us to build community in the College of Business & Entrepreneurship. It is a time outside of regular classes when our faculty and staff can fellowship with our students who made the dean’s list and celebrate their success,” said COBE Dean Dr. John Duncan. “We also wanted to give our dean’s list students something to recognize their accomplishments. For the first event, we chose to give College of Business & Entrepreneurship t-shirts.”
Duncan says through the dean’s list receptions, they want to give honor to students who are doing well [Give honor to whom honor is due – Romans 13:7]; Rejoice with the students who are doing well academically [Rejoice with those who rejoice -Romans 15:15]; and encourage good students to continue to do well [Spur one another on to love and good deeds, encouraging one another – Hebrews 10: 24-25.]
He says one of the best practices that he’s seen in Christ-centered businesses is the use of a ministry plan, also called a care plan.
“A business with a ministry plan will set aside profits to use to minister to or care for their employees, their customers, their suppliers, and the community,” Duncan says.
During the Spring Semester of 2019, we established a ministry plan for the College of Business & Entrepreneurship. We did not have profits to use for this purpose, so donations were sought from our employees and some friends of our program. This year we have funds to meet the objectives of the ministry plan. Those objectives are to encourage, meet needs, and help with missional projects for our students, faculty and staff, and other stakeholders.
“We [COBE] have a ministry committee, called the Make it Better Committee, comprised of four members of our COBE faculty and staff. These people decide what activities we will conduct to meet our ministry objectives,” he said.
Duncan feels the reception was a tremendous success and would like to thank Stacie Fetter, Bob Shearer, Feliccia Smith, and Mollie Withers for leading and coordinating this effort.
“I was astounded by all the preparation that they did. We are proud of our students who made the dean’s list last semester and I hope they will wear their new College of Business & Entrepreneurship t-shirts with that same sense of pride. I’m already looking forward to the reception we will host during the Spring Semester,” said Duncan.
