My Story
I grew up near San Antonio, Texas where I grew fond of the outdoors and came to know Christ. I originally decided to study Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences from Texas A&M University because I wanted to work in summer camp ministry. Throughout my undergraduate studies, I became interested in the role outdoor recreation and natural areas play in individuals’ lives. This led me to pursue a master’s degree at Clemson. My interest in ministry remained and I worked at my local church upon completing my master’s. I then pursued a Ph.D. at the University of Georgia to fuel my interest in teaching and research related to human dimensions of natural resources. I now have the opportunity to combine these interests by teaching outdoor leadership at a Christian university.
I enjoy hiking, climbing, running, riding bikes, reading, among other outdoor-related hobbies. My wife, Abby, and I have 2 children, Walker (2020) and Lucy (2022), and a German Shorthaired Pointer (Gus).
