My Story
Although I was raised believing in Jesus Christ as the Son of God, as well as my Lord and Savior, it was not until I was in my late teens before I understood what that meant. I began to question my knowledge and commitment to my faith. After praying and much reflection, I rededicated my life to Jesus and was rebaptized with the knowledge of the meaning this would have on my life. From that point on I have lived my life through complete faith in God’s plan.
Life has taken many turns (not all good), but my faith in God has always seen me through. There were times in my life that I did not know how my family would survive, but God would always provide. Over the years, I have been active in ministry and church, but I prefer to be in the background helping. Although there are times that I am in the spotlight, I always want the focus to be on God and His Glory.
In my academic career, I seek to find ways to show the love of Christ through my actions when I interact with my students. Students need boundaries and Grace. I have been working to find a way to enable students to express their beliefs and yet understand differences in each other. When I started teaching full-time, I taught all the Introduction to Business. I recognize that this world has become very polarized (including the Christian World) and there is a lack of discussions. Therefore, all my students in the Introduction to Business courses either write or present a debate on an issue taking both sides of the argument. I want students to understand that we can disagree but a discussion and sharing of ideas is what is important. I like to include a prayer discussion post for students to use in each of my classes. I try to find ways to use examples from the life of Jesus in my lectures and discussions.
There are many times that God and religious beliefs are discussed in all my classes. Overall, I believe that God has had a distinct impact on my life. I try everyday to follow Jesus and the Bible in all that I do. This naturally will come out in my interaction with my students and colleagues. Everything in my life is done with a focus on Jesus, Love, Holiness, Justice, and Grace. My focus is to be a biblical Servant Leader following the example set by Jesus Christ. I have been led to be a part of my students lives and to pour into them in their journey.
