ONE
Are You ONE?
If your parents have not earned their own four-year degrees, you are a pioneer in your family—the first generation, the one.
New territory means anticipation, anxiety, hope. You bring the advantage of fresh eyes; you are open to creating traditions, not bound by the old. You are making something new.
For all the energy and perspective you bring, you may not have all the subtle and soft skills that go into college success. Those whose parents have been through it seem to arrive with those skills already underway.
No Mystery, No Secret Handshake
Here’s the deal: your college education will change you. We’re banking on it. It’s our mission to educate transformational leaders for church and society, after all. You’ll gain new perspectives and new skills in reading and interpreting information. You take on new habits of mind. You learn to study in ways you didn’t know you could.
These changes become part of you. You go on to your work and your life, carrying this change forward. Your children will pick up those habits almost unconsciously. They’ll arrive on campus ready to succeed, texting home to a family that “gets” it.
That’s all it is.
In every family, someone was the first to go to college, the first to earn a university degree. This starts a legacy of successful skills passing from generation to generation.
Don’t worry. We’ve got your back.
