Dr. R. Marshall Blalock

Doctor of Ministry

Occupation: Pastor, First Baptist Church of Charleston

I have served as pastor of the First Baptist Church of Charleston since 1997. With three children, all of whom are NGU graduates and their spouses, and my wife Cathy, who has served a term as a trustee, North Greenville has a significant place in our family.

Because of Dr. Larry McDonald’s wisdom and leadership, I was impressed by North Greenville’s Doctor of Ministry program. The emphasis on discipleship, leadership, missions, and church health makes the degree intensely practical and calls every student to a deeper walk with Christ.

The program is rigorous, I had to get better glasses from all the reading, but I found every book and project valuable. I served as president for the South Carolina Baptist Convention as I completed the program, and writing a project thesis as a part of that journey taught me more than I could have imagined. I recommend Dr. McDonald and all the leaders who make this program so meaningful.
