Occupation: Director of Bands at York Comprehensive High School, Education
Both of Laura Brooks ʼ02 parents were former music educators and church musicians. She was surrounded by music and music making during her entire childhood.
Since second grade, she had always wanted to be a broadcast journalist until the summer before her senior year of high school. During this summer, she attended a drum major academy that was life changing. God shook her during one of her camp sessions. That night, she called her parents to let them know she was going into music.
The path was a bit winding, but God led her to NGU. The plan was to be at NGU for one year, then transfer. When it came time to make plans for the transfer, she let her family know that she had found her place, her home. She was staying at NGU.
Her comprehensive band program includes the Cougar Marching Band, Wind Ensemble Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, Chamber Ensembles, Color Guard, and Winter Guard. Her ensembles have received numerous superior ratings at state and regional marching and concert assessments.
