Highpoint, NC (June 21, 2019) Utah Jones added one more honor to his North Greenville resume this week as he was named Conference Carolinas Male Athlete of the Year as voted on by league administrators.

The accolade puts an exclamation point on an already impressive list which includes conference and region player of the year. Jones is also listed as a first-team performer in the league, region, and as a First Team All-American.

In 2019 Jones put together one of the best seasons in program history. The senior shortstop did it all for the Crusaders, hitting a team and league-high .403 and was 15th in the country in hits with 82 on the season which was also first in the league. He was 14th in Division II in runs scored with 68 to go along with 21 doubles and five homers.

The senior playmaker also knocked in 52 runs and swiped 18 bases in 20 attempts. He was also a solid defender for NGU’s middle infield, committing just six errors in 140 attempts, finishing with a .973 field percentage.

Jones was drafted by Seattle earlier this month in the 2019 MLB draft. The Mariners selected the switch hitter in the 29th round with the 876th overall pick.
