First Upstate Senior Night Brings Prospective High School Seniors to Campus

Tigerville, SC (September 26, 2019) North Greenville University’s (NGU) Office of Admissions held their first Upstate Senior Night before the Crusaders’ first home football game against Newberry on Thursday, Sept. 5. The Office of Admissions hosted 21 prospective high school seniors from the Upstate and their families.
“This unique event is designed to engage seniors from the Upstate area high schools that have expressed interest in the university,” said Campus Visit and Assistant Event Coordinator Emilee Hall (’13). “Its purpose is to create and build relationships with these students.”
Prospective students were invited to bring friends and family to the tailgate event. Each student was provided a gift, a barbeque meal, and game tickets.
The event took place during the week that SC Governor Henry McMaster gave a mandatory evacuation order to families living in the coastal region of the state in anticipation of Hurricane Dorian making landfall. A Charleston family, Jon (’02) and Mindy Dumont (’03), both NGU alumni, and their sons Tommy and Matthew evacuated to the Upstate and learned about the event and decided to make a visit to campus.
“Our oldest son is considering NGU,” said Mindy. “Tommy is looking for a smaller, Christian university to study communications. We want him to find the school that fits his needs and provides the best education that is also affordable for us.”
The Dumonts appreciated the opportunity to talk with the admissions staff, alumni, and faculty.
“The football game was great. We were jealous of the football stadium. If only we’d had one when we attended NGU,” Mindy said.
Dr. Thomas Willoughby, assistant professor of Christian Studies, also attended the event with his family. Two of his sons, Andrew and Devon, are seniors at Blue Ridge High School.
“We visited with a couple of admissions counselors and were very impressed by the interest and courtesy shown us,” Willoughby said. “Even with the rain, the game was tremendously fun.”
