SC Baptists Celebrate 200th Anniversary

SC Baptists To Celebrate Its 200th Anniversary Tigerville, SC (November 8, 2021) South Carolina Baptists will celebrate this week its 200th Anniversary as it convenes for its Annual Meeting at First Baptist Church Columbia. To commemorate this milestone, the South Carolina Baptist Convention (SCBC) History Committee hosted a webinar, “Learning from Our Past to Serve Faithfully in the Future.”

“The purpose for the program is to reflect on our past, to learn lessons from the past in order to serve the Lord faithfully in the future,” said Michael Bryant, member of the SCBC History Committee.

A North Greenville University administrator and an alumnus familiar with Baptist history, theology, and the local church were asked to join the conversation. NGU Provost and Dean of the University Faculty Dr. Nathan A. Finn discussed SCBC history in the 19th Century, and Taylors First Baptist Church pastor and 1999 NGU alumnus Dr. Josh Powell examined the Convention’s first meeting in 1821.

The SCBC annual meeting theme “Advance Together” will take place Nov. 8-9, at First Baptist Church Columbia. NGU will host a fellowship meal on Monday, Nov. 8, for all alumni and friends attending the Convention.
