Online Instruction to Continue

Tigerville, SC (March 27, 2020) In a communication released yesterday to the North Greenville University (NGU) community, the university’s senior leadership council, with input from its COVID-19 Response team, announced that the university is extending modified operations through May 3, 2020, continuing online instruction through the end of the spring semester. This decision aligns the university with the state’s plan for public K-12, technical schools, colleges, and universities to remain closed through April 2020.
In addition to continuing online instruction, the Tigerville and Greer campuses will remain closed to the public. Staff support on both campuses will be adjusted as needed to operate the modified plan. All public events, including May commencement, are canceled. Degrees will be conferred on May 1 to candidates completing requirements and diplomas will be mailed to the students. Graduates will be allowed to participate in a special commencement ceremony during Homecoming 2020, Fall 2020 commencement service, or Spring 2021 commencement service. Housing and related services, including dining, will continue to be provided on a limited basis if feasible.
“We realize that these actions are deeply disappointing to students and their families, particularly those who are about to graduate and were looking forward to a final semester on campus. We share your belief that this is incredibly difficult. I personally hate it so much,” said NGU President Dr. Gene C. Fant, Jr., in his Facebook Live address yesterday morning.
President Fant said, “We’re in this together,” and thanked the community for their continued prayers, patience, and support as the university navigates this uncertain time. He looks forward to being back together on campus in the future.
NGU’s COVID-19 Response Team continues to monitor the situation closely and is actively engaged in daily planning to inform and reduce the risk to its community from the virus. The university confirms that no one in the NGU community has reported having a confirmed case of COVID-19 or being exposed to a confirmed case of the virus.
