Vision Media Brings National, State Press Awards to Tigerville

NGU Vision Media Brings CSPA, SCPA Awards to Tigerville Tigerville, SC (April 12, 2022) North Greenville University’s (NGU) College of Communication and Fine Arts students representing the student-produced Vision Media were recognized by national and state press associations for the 2020-21 academic year and Fall 2022 semester. Students received three-second place honors, one third-place honor, and two honorable mentions for “The Vision Magazine.”

From Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA), a national organization, AnnaClaire Massey (’22) from Taylors received honorable mention for her Table of Contents work and Brad Stephens (’21) from Greenville for his computer-generated illustration in the 2020-21 Vision Magazine.

From South Carolina Press Association (SCPA) in the Division I category, Under 5,000 category, which is for colleges with a student enrollment under 5,000, Seth Atkins (expected ’24) from Inman received second place for his photo story “Fall is here, let’s have pumpkin spice ‘a lot te.'” Delaney Blackburn (expected ’22) from Zirconia, NC, received second place for her story titled ”Playing God or Saving Mankind? Genetic engineering and Christian ethics.” Zion Dendy (’21) from Mauldin earned third place for his photo story “Defending the Ville.”

In the Collegiate Open Division, which competes with schools of any size across the state, Adrianna Austin (expected ‘22) from Travelers Rest won second place for  her video “NGU hosts mobile Covid vaccine clinic.”              

“The Vision students are dedicated to giving the NGU community student-focused news every day of the school year,” said NGU Assistant Professor of Mass Communication, “The Vision Magazine,” and “The Vision Online” adviser Dr. Karyn S. Campbell. “I am proud of this recognition by SCPA and CSPA, which shows that our students can produce award-winning stories about people and places on the NGU campus.  I look forward to seeing where they go in the 2022-23 school year.”

SCPA serves to strengthen the Palmetto State’s newspaper industry, enhance public understanding of the role of newspapers, and protect basic freedoms of press, speech, and the free flow of information. They represent all 15 daily and 74 weekly newspapers.

According to SCPA’s website, winners of the 2021 News Contest were presented on March 11 at SCPA’s Awards Celebration Banquet. Winners come from more than 3,000 contest entries submitted by 81 organizations.
