NGU Announces New Ministry Scholarship

North Greenville University recently announced a new scholarship opportunity – the Bryant and Roseanne Fersner Scholars Program.
The Bryant and Roseanne Fersner Scholars Program is expected to begin providing scholarship assistance for Fall 2019. The scholarship fund was created by Dr. Frankie Melton, NGU assistant professor of Christian studies, in honor of Rev. Fersner, the long-time pastor of First Baptist Church of Kershaw, SC, and his beloved wife, Roseanne.
Fersner, an Orangeburg, SC, native, accepted Christ at a young age and has been active in the life of the church throughout his life.
After high school, he attended and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance. He worked for a CPA firm before entering Southeastern Baptist Seminary, where he graduated with a Master of Divinity with Language and Christian Education.
He has served three churches over thirty-five years: Brownville Baptist (Blenheim, SC), Ridgecrest Baptist (Florence, SC), and over twenty-nine years, First Baptist Kershaw, SC, retiring in 2014. In 2014, he was called to be the associational missionary for the Moriah Baptist Association.
“The scholarship will support qualified students who plan to pursue vocational ministry by providing financial assistance to enhance the ability of students to achieve their academic goals and develop skills needed to serve the body of Christ in every community,” said Melton. “We are praying for a generation of faithful men and women to commit their lives to the service of God’s Kingdom in both small and large contexts. Since 80% of Southern Baptist Churches average less than 100 in attendance, many students will serve in small towns and rural areas. Like the Fersners, by God’s grace, may they be faithful.”
Melton says the scholarship will be offered to students, not necessarily Christian studies majors, who can give a credible testimony that they intend to pursue a ministry vocation such as a pastor, church planter, minister of music, missionary, etc.
The students will be asked to complete an application, write a testimony, and have an interview with the scholarship committee.

For those who would like to make a contribution to the scholars program, all contributions will be placed in an endowment with the annual interest being used for the scholarships.
Contributions to the Scholars Program can be made via cash, check, credit card, stocks and bonds, pledges, trusts, bequests, or online through the secured payment portal on the NGU website.
