Tigerville, SC – (December 6, 2018) Commencement, the university-wide graduation ceremony, is held at the end of each semester to celebrate summer, fall, and spring graduates. Degrees are officially conferred at commencement.
Filled with pageantry, this ceremony includes an address from President Fant and the commencement speaker. The Fall 2018 Commencement speaker will be Representative James Mikell “Mike” Burns from South Carolina House District 17.
A Travelers Rest, SC native, Burns contributed his business acumen to NGU in the early 2000s, working as the Director of Development for the Athletic Foundation. During this time he supervised the construction of the Melvin and Dollie Younts Football Stadium. Upon completion of the stadium project, Burns began the Small Business Incubator program at Greenville Technical College.
Since being elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives in 2013 Burns has devoted himself to helping his constituents navigate state government and crafting legislation for the common good. He serves on the Agricultural and the Environmental and Natural Resources committees in the House, while also sitting on the boards of the Upstate Appalachian Regional Council of Governments, Greenville-Pickens Area Transportation Study, and the Legislative Liaison Committee to Renewable Water Resources (chairman).
Fall 2018 Commencement will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in Turner Chapel. NGU will graduate its first class of PA Medicine program graduates.
