COE Dress to Impress Closet Looking for Donations
Tigerville, SC (August 22, 2019) Before a single word is said to the interviewer, the interviewee has already made an impression based on how they have dressed. Every company or school has a different dress code; how you dress at the job may have very little to do with how you dress for an interview.
Even though NGU’s College of Education (COE) graduates are highly sought after, after graduation, the College continues to look for ways to improve the student experience and degree programs. The COE has started this fall to stock gently-used professional attire in their new “Dress to Impress Closet” for students to purchase reasonably priced clothing to wear when interviewing for internships and teaching positions.
“I came up with the idea last semester because some of our students did not have the financial means to buy nice clothes for their internships or interviews,” said Dean for the College of Education Dr. Constance Wright. “We usually end up sending them to Goodwill or Miracle Hill, but I wanted the NGU community to have an opportunity to help them. Besides, NGU has the best-dressed faculty on the planet.”
The following items are needed for the closet: dresses, skirts, slacks, dress shirts with or without collars, blouses, blazers, scarves, and shoes for women. Solid or plaid dress shirts with collars, button-up, short or long-sleeved, ties including bow ties, sports coats, pants, belts, and shoes for men.
“The donated clothing will be reasonably priced so that students can afford them,” said Wright. “Prices will range from 50 cents to $5.00.”
All proceeds will go to COE students in need of financial assistance for expenses such as Praxis exams, nametags, and background checks.
The COE would like to remind everyone that gently used means no stains, fading, tears, dirt, dust, and odors such as mothballs and body odor. The College asks that donations be clean and that all buttons are attached and all zippers and hooks work properly. If a donation cannot be used, it will be taken to Miracle Hill or Goodwill.
Donations to the closet will be accepted in the Foster Center building on campus Mondays – Thursdays between 9:30 a.m. until 4 p.m., and Fridays between 9 a.m and 11 a.m. The Foster Center can be located on the campus map on the NGU website. If someone is not able to donate clothing, the COE is glad to take monetary donations.
