Tigerville, SC–For one NGU student, being part of the information technology (IT) crowd has brought many opportunities for professional development, learning, and community this summer.

Brennan Revells, a senior pursuing a business administration major with a minor in computer science, first heard about NGU through a friend at church and subsequently met Tim Huggins, vice president for information technology services, and his wife Ingrid at Aunt Sue’s Country Corner’s ice cream shop. They invited him to visit NGU and after a campus tour, he decided to attend. Revells gives credit to the Lord for working all the details out.

He began working in the IT department as a student technician in 2017 where he has learned much about customer service and professional communication skills through this opportunity. He has developed troubleshooting skills for discerning problems and knowledge to help resolve issues with student, faculty, and staff computers. His awareness regarding cybersecurity and the importance of protecting privacy and information has risen to a new level. Brennan commented, “There was so much I didn’t know that I didn’t know regarding software and hardware technology until I worked for IT.”

Revells was nominated and selected to be the IT Jenzabar intern for the summer of 2019. He has been working with NGU’s Student Information System in areas of documentation, institutional process mapping, as well as, learning several programming languages. He was one of 34 interns invited to attend the Jenzabar JAM Conference in San Diego, CA in May where students and Jenzabar staff shared ideas and information on making the student experience better at each institution represented.

He recommends the experience he has gained in IT to other students. The skills will be invaluable as he graduates and interviews for jobs in business and technology. Working in IT has made application of what he has been learning in the classroom real. There have been 39 student technicians who have gone on to IT careers from their work experience in IT Services.

Overall, Revells’ advice is, “First and foremost, follow where God leads you. I believe God brought me here and He is guiding and directing everything.”
